Global Wiki Advocacy Meet-up
In May 2024 Wikimedia Chile will host a global wiki meeting in Santiago as a side event of the Unesco conference, on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2024. The event will unite Wikimedians from across the globe who conduct advocacy and public policy activities to promote and protect the Wikimedia model and its role in assuring access to relevant online information.

SADiLaR-Wikipedia-PanSALB (SWiP) is a collaborative initiative by the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR); the free encyclopaedia
(Wikipedia) and the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB). The project was officially launched on the 20th of September 2023 at UNISA in Pretoria. The SWiP project is aimed at promoting all South African indigenous languages online. It does so by bringing
together communities of indigenous language users and giving them the skills to create and review content on Wikipedia. In doing so, participants will collectively increase their respective languages’ digital footprint.

Wiki Science Competition 2023 in South Africa ends
The Wiki Science Competition 2023 in South Africa will end at the end of day 31 January 2024. Judging will be completed in February 2024 and the winners announced and entered into the international WikiScience competition. More information can be seen on the event page on Wikipedia.
